When one looks back from where RUGBY BOKX originated and the first version built many years back, the core elements stayed the same through all the development phases, including 

• the platform of a board game with all the related playing pieces like dice, cards, props, etc.;

• making it as realistic and playable as possible to ensure that RUGBY is always the ultimate winner;

• "packaging" the game as to emphasize the idea of playing rugby inside a box;   

• make the board design as informative and user-friendly as possible to ensure easy game play and assist with quick reference to the rules.

 

The actual layout of the board changed a few times, mainly to assist in keeping cost down and making it less cluttered.

Images on Referee Cards, Team Card designs and replacing the original "stand-up score board" all formed part of the evolvement of the game.

 

One of the highlights was the creation of a proportional rugby ball to use as play piece. Every new proof-print contributed to a mixture of excitement to see the result of hard work and disappointment if a element had to be re-designed or flaws fixed.

RUGBY BOKX's development is considered a dynamic, evolving and creative process with only the sky being the limit.....

After all the industry-related scientific methods involved in the development of a new board game were scrutinized and analyzed, the surprising conclusion reached was that RUGBY BOKX 

unintentionally adheres to each and every one of them!

Much can be said about the objective and impact of each of the game elements, with some of them being:

​

• A full scale board (with all the lines) divided into 5m x 5m blocks ensures realistic game play and scoring opportunities;

• Referee Card that not only provide an educational angle, but also balance out the changes of success for both players;

• Cohesive game flow that matches a real life rugby game of which the scores obtained within the agreed game duration, acting as proof hereof.

• The outcome of the dice throws and generic interpretation thereof provide the competitive edge and "levels the playing field".

Constant feedback provided from those playing the game is welcome as to improve the total game experience and also assist in future marketing strategies.

The proof of the pudding is still in the eating - only when you played the game will you be totally convinced that RUGBY BOKX's design is as close to the real thing as you can get!!!

Currently RUGBY BOKX World Cup 2023 is available for purchase and should be considered as the Intro Level of the game with many exciting expansions planned. 

​

Still using the same platform, some of the add-ons include:

• "Advanced Version" of game where "players" are placed on the board which make the game play more complex and add additional dynamics to tactics applied and positional play exercised;

• "Sevens Rugby" version;

• additional Referee Cards to eventually cover all possible scenarios that may occur during a rugby match;  

• "cosmetic" add-ons, e.g. pavilions, electronic score board, etc. for an even more realistic experience;

• multiple new "Team Card"-packages to enable players to select their team of choice for participation in world-wide tournaments;  

• making the game available in more languages, including International Versions.

Personal customization of the game where photos of a specific team(s) are placed on the Referee Cards or even photos of team members printed on the board (e.g. as a "memorial" of a school's First Rugby Team at a particular year) is already in the pipeline.
